Polyscias is an exotic family of tropicals with a Far Eastern flair. They are exceptional character pieces, unusual accents, and fine accompaniment to Bonsai. The 20 year old specimen shown above is P.crispata 'Ruffles' shaped and grown into an exquisite miniature tree and planted in a 9" Bonsai pot. Our Polyscias are sold in plastic pots and can be used for Bonsai, or
potted in any decorative container.

The
most well known are the large "Ming Aralia" (Polyscias fruticosa) and its
miniature sister "Parsley Ming" (P.fruticosa 'elegans'). Other relatives
represent a diverse group of interesting leaf shapes in green and variegated
forms. One, the "Smooth Black" was developed in our own greenhouses
as a sport of Spinach Aralia and has the same dark green leaves, but a
shiny sheen on a flat surface - see the photo in the 4" group below.
Each of our specimens is fully established and has several plants per pot. The 4" pot Parsley Ming shown at right has been transplanted in a 5" clay Bonsai Set. Note: Since Polyscias are tropicals and prefer temperatures above 40 degrees, they are shipped mid-May through October.

For the last 20 years, we have produced Polyscias (Ming Aralia) cuttings from ground planted "mom" stock grown in 70% shade. Every spring, we dig and pot a few of these outstanding specimens. Each is "one of a kind" tree form and an elegant indoor specimen. The 'Ruffles' pictured at the top of this page shows a tree-like shape. The 7" pot size 'Parsley' below is planted in a decorative pot (not
included or available). Our specimens range in age from
3 years old for a 4" pot size to 15-20 years for an 8" pot size.
They can easily be trained into Bonsai.
